We are back on track and Gamil.com will have regular stories once again now that the long series of holidays are sadly and finally over. Since the holidays are finished but the shopping season has been forced to continue indefinitely, I recommend you go out and find the Vestalife Firefly iPod dock for your shiny new iPod.

It’s beautiful, in color AND it opens and closes! I would assume it sounds good but, really, who cares?
Vestalife will be launching it at MacWorld this month. “Stay tuned.”

Interesting article by Gizmodo claiming a major design influence of Apple. There are some striking similarities between Dieter Rams’ work in the 60’s for Braun and some of the work coming from Jonathan Ive. However earlier assertions by Frog Design’s Luke Williams have been that the Apple influences were from bathroom fixtures and materials. These are nifty visual comparison games to play, and I’m not comfortable with saying that no ideas are new. Instead I see this as inspiration for designers to realize that great design ideas may come from outside of your industry and instead from things like a 1960’s speaker or a 1990’s toilet.

So I finally upgraded my 2nd gen iPod white brick to a sweet newish 2nd gen iPod black nano. Of course I added an orange Mila Case and Indie Art Jacket in preparation for a road trip to the NC mountains. But first I had to get an FM modulator so I could pump out some tunes through my car stereo. I have seen those mechanical looking arms that plug into a cigarette lighter and hold your iPod. That design seems clunky and a bit Borgish to me. So I found a nice one from Audiobug that just plugged into the lighter and connected to my iPod via wire into the headphone jack. Very unobtrusive. Now my iPod hangs from the vent in my car with my handy Mila car clip. No erector set iPod holder required.

Cruising the Blueridge Parkway during Thanksgiving holiday with my Mila iPod swinging on each curve made me regret not upgrading sooner. So now my iPod…. wait for it…..has a new twist on swing music. Beth made me say this.

The First Friday Gallery show at Designbox was a special one for us. We are partnering with the awesome all-sorts-of-cases brand, Pacific Design, out of Austin Texas to create an “Indie Artists Collection” for iPod cases and PSP gaming cases. The Indie Artists Collection is launched under the Pacific Design brand and features 2 local Raleigh artists: David Eichenberger and Paul Friedrich. The First Friday show was a celebration of these cases being launched nationwide and sold in Circuit City throughout the country. The party was a smashing success. Ty Rarick and Alexandra Elliott (both of Pacific Design), flew in from Austin for the event. Paul and David were both here signing cases, and Chad Wilkins of Gamila orchestrated all of the logistics. We had incredible music with old school vinyl spun by DJ jasonjohns, great food from the RedRoom, and the always popular Big Boss beer. Breakdancers showed up and made their own dance floor, and a local bike club arrived with 35ish cyclists and at least 3 inline skaters. The party went late (of course) and the feedback and sales of all of the artist cases was very positive. We also showed a line of 6 Mila Art Jackets at the event. These are also cases designed for iPods with local art as the main graphic. They are all under the Gamila brand.

The Pacific Design “Indie Artists Collection” iPod and PSP gaming cases can be found at Circuit City, on the Pacific Design website, or on this Gamila store page. The Gamila “Mila Art Jackets” can be found on the Gamila website. And very soon – maybe even tomorrow – we will have a new shopping page here on the Gamil blog so you can shop straight from here. Stay tuned…
