I Often Dream of Trains in New York DELUXE EDITION

Gamil Design worked with Yep Roc and Robyn Hitchcock to create a deluxe CD package for a limited Deluxe Edition of “I Often Dream of Trains in New York”. The classic looking CD package unfolds and transforms into a phenakistoscope, or moving picture machine. Original CD and DVD artwork can be viewed as animations through the included viewer. Gamil developed and produced the package concept, design and artwork. Each part of this deluxe package was made in the USA. This Deluxe Edition can be purchased at Yep Roc!

Blue Flame Tattoo came to Gamil Design wanting a new website that was simple yet decorative, and able to accommodate large galleries for each of the artist. Once we took it outside and admired our work from the lovely Humble Pie, we noticed that the railings of our next door building looked just like a Donkey Kong set. Naturally we had to spend the whole next day creating all the characters for our first-ever stop motion animation movie.

Last year, we had the pleasure of working with Stefan Sagmeister to realize the deluxe CD package for David Byrne & Brian Eno’s album: Everything That Happens Will Happen Today.

It was truly a labor of love, as we here at Gamil Design are big fans of both David Byrne and Sagmeister, Inc. We were elated to find this video posted by Topspin CEO Ian Rogers with his personal unveiling of the deluxe CD package as it arrived at his home.

We are excited to announce the launch of the Shop Local Raleigh website! The Greater Raleigh Merchants Association hired the joint team of Gamil Design and Thirdparty Labs (both Designbox members) to create the site. Gamil designed the site and then Thirdparty Labs built it with their Carbon Content Management Toolkit. At shoplocalraleigh.org, visitors can browse or search a directory of local member businesses, see Google map locations, join the campaign, and find out more about the benefits of shopping locally. Yay Raleigh!

What’s the definition of an inspiring and fun graphic design project? Designing the CD for a band you know and love!  We’ve had the joy of working with The Kickin’ Grass Band for all 3 of their albums, Backroads, On the Short Rows, and their latest self-titled release.

This project was especially unique because KG moved into some new musical territory, blending Americana-style melodies with Bluegrass instrumentation. We wanted the design to reflect that “rootsy” nostalgic feeling, but mix it with the contemporary personality of the band. The digipak construction we used from Disc Makers gave us the right textural feeling, is cost-effective and is more ecologically sensitive than a standard jewel case.

Designing the package was also super fun because we got to work with our friends,  Superfan Records. Their description of our work:

“Gamil Design was called in to turn the band’s unconventional vision into cover art that is whimsical-yet-edgy. It’s the perfect calling card for a release that’s anything but ordinary from start to finish.”

Today is the start of the Raleigh Wide Open III festival, and if you are in the Raleigh area and can get your hands on the News&Observer paper check out the What’s Up! section, for a map (designed by GAMIL) of all the events and times of events going on in the Downtown area. With the grand opening of the new Raleigh Convention Center (RCC) happening this weekend, it is sure to be a fun filled festival for the city. Our friends over at Humble Pie, a restaurant located near our office, came to us looking for help redesigning their website. The website that they had was not working for them any more… it was misleading, dated, and the biggest problem of all was that they were unable to make updates on it easily. Not being “computer gurus,” the Humble Pie guys requested a new site that would be easy/foolproof for them to update, with their latest menus, events, and specials. We did some research, found a content management system that fit their needs, designed, designed, designed, then TA-DA! After a short tutorial session on how to make the updates, Humble Pie was back on the web scene with a whole new look.
