COLOR CHART : Reinventing Color 1950 to Today

Date March 25, 2008

Frank Stella. Gran Cairo, 1962

MOMA is talking color. According to curator Ann Temkin, somewhere mid-century, artist began seeing color in a new way. With the advent of commercial paint in a myriad of standardized colors the artists pallet became available at the local hardware store. Pop art in a can. Pantone geek heaven.

Jim Dine. Red Devil Color Chart No. 1, 1963

Of course if you happen to be in Raleigh, NC rather than NYC you can stop by Designbox and see what a local artist does with actual paint chips from Lowes. (see left side. Trademark style of Shaun Richards).

This theme is a seriously altered version of Cleaker, by Adam Cleaveland. I found it by going through the theme bank of Wordpress. I also periodically google “premium themes” to see what new is out there. We wanted a 3 column with both sidebars on the right side, and for it to be widget-ready (of course). We also wanted to be able to change our header. With all those restrictions, Cleaker was our favorite, and this is the hacked version of it. I have to admit, though, I’m about ready to go theme shopping and/or create a new one :-) .

    thanks.
